Description
Thomas Merton was one of the most important theological voices of the 20th Century. A monk at the Trappist Abbey of Our Lady of Gethsemani in Kentucky, Merton was also a writer, theologian, mystic, poet, social activist and scholar of comparative religion. One of his most important contributions was his revitalization of contemplative practice that had mostly been forgotten within the Christian tradition.
In this online class series, we will cover some of his life’s journey from wayward young man to respected mystic and some of his important concepts such as true self/false self. Much of the course will be devoted to engaging a selection of his works through lectio divina and discussion with the hope that the participants will gain insights from meditating on his words.
Intention of the Hive
When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
