Description
“There is something in every one of you that waits and listens for the sound of the genuine in yourself. It is the only true guide you will ever have. And if you cannot hear it, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody else pulls.” – Howard Thurman
Do you ever feel like external forces control your life?
This course explores the power of intrapersonal communication: the way we talk to ourselves. In the midst of social pressures of all kinds, we will learn new skills and build new habits of compassionate intrapersonal communication. Our practice together will also be to consider the “sound of the genuine” in each of us, as the late mystic and social leader Howard Thurman describes it. This “sound of the genuine” is where the inner authority of each person resides.
D. Lamar, as an Instructor of Organizational Communication, has spent the last 20 years putting theory into practice as a pastor, entrepreneur, and community organizer. He draws insight from his experience navigating communication spanning from the inner life to the systemic level. This class will utilize teaching on intrapersonal communication, poetry reading and writing, small group discussion, and mindfulness practice.
Participants will come away with:
Increased self-awareness: Understand your inner voice and its impact.
Stronger inner authority: Make choices aligned with your values.
Greater emotional resilience: Respond effectively to challenges.
Tools for social change: Cultivate inner peace to contribute to a more loving world.
This course is the first step in a multi-year communication curriculum. We'll build on the foundation of Mindful Intrapersonal Communication to explore:
Personal Communication: Building healthy relationships.
Cultural Communication: Understanding and navigating diverse perspectives.
Institutional Communication: Working effectively within systems.
Systemic Communication: Creating positive change in the world.
Let’s discover the power of your inner voice!
Intention of the Hive
When you join a Hive experience, you're invited into our intention to create a group experience that's inclusive, rooted in mindfulness, and dynamically relational. We aspire for each Hive experience to model these intentions, and even to refine them as we continue to learn how to gather in a way that's transformative! The embodiment of these intentions by Hive facilitators, Members, and class participants is what makes the Hive the unique and healing social container that many experience it to be.
